It is distinguished by blue flowers in the shape of a five-pointed star with an intense cucumber scent. The herbal raw material is cold-pressed borage seeds from which oil is obtained. It is a rich source of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids. The most important of them is gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), the content of which in the oil is 16-27%.Gamma-linolenic acid is a source of essential fatty acids (EFA). The name of these acids is related to the need to supply them with food, because their synthesis does not take place in the human body. EFAs are also referred to as vitamin F, essential in the diet, which comes from the English word "Fatty Acids".The scope of GLA action depends largely on the form of application. When administered externally, it passes only into the stratum corneum of the epidermis and fills the intercellular space.
