Background: The motif of the triskele (triple spiral) is traditionally common in numerous cultures around the world. Its use was particularly common in the Nordic and Celtic cultural areas. The triskele is usually symbolic of the way of life. There are many different interpretations, with the number three always playing a major role: past-present-future or birth-life-death or earth-water-air or youth-adulthood-old age. Celtic knots have neither beginning nor end and therefore serve as a symbol of infinity or eternity. According to Norse mythology, the father of the gods Odin had two ravens, Hugin and Munin. He sent them out daily to explore so that they could tell him everything that was going on on earth. The raven was therefore considered a symbol of knowledge.
