Description

Pure Ceylon teas are bright, full-flavoured and well-balanced and our Ceylon stays true to the traditions and flavours of this famous tea country - beautiful golden colour, bright and smooth, with a delicate floral aroma. Also available: signature loose leaf tea caddy. The first tea plants in Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka) were established in 1839 at the Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, under the supervision of The East India Company. The First estate, planted in 1840, belonged to Chief Justice Sir Anthony Oliphant, who lived at Queen’s Cottage near Nuwara Eliya, a region which still produces some of the finest Ceylon teas. It was with the devastation of the island’s coffee estates by ‘coffee rust’ in 1889, that tea came into its own as a large scale alternative crop. This superb Ceylon tea is named after the man who had the vision to plant tea on his estate in those early years. This tea is sourced from a tea estate certified by The Ethical Tea Partnership.
