NIKE AIR FORCE 1 '07 44The Nike Air Force 1 is a 1982 model designed by Bruce Kilgore. From the very beginning, it was intended as a basketball shoe; previously, NBA players complained about the shoe's lack of durability, which fell apart during aggressive play. The Nike Air Force One (named after the US presidential plane) quickly became beloved on American streets, especially in Harlem, which is considered the birthplace of the AF1. Initially, it failed to gain traction in Europe and only gained wider popularity in 1995. Nevertheless, the AF1 is Nike's most popular and most profitable shoe, earning $28 billion in sales over its 35-year history. The AF1 was technologically advanced, available in three versions: low, mid, and high with a removable Velcro strap. In 1994, it was equipped with the "deubré"—a small plate placed on the laces by Nike designer Damon Clegg. This is the official name of this shoe element. The deubré changed periodically, with the inscription "AF-1" appearing on it, and for the shoe's 25th anniversary, the date "82" was added. Over 2,000 colorways of the AF1 and collaborations with brands (including Supreme, Undefeated, and Anti Social Social Club) were created, making it one of the most frequently modified shoes.
