Its laxative action is due to a partial inhibition in the absorption of fluid in the large intestine, with an increase in peristalsis and stool volume that manifests itself after 6-12 hours of oral administration. Senna may cause diarrhea if the amount taken is excessive. To help alleviate this possible side effect, the addition of dietary fiber, such as fructooligosaccharides, is essential. Finally, anise will avoid possible flatulence and bloating. It is recommended to take at night, before going to bed.
