Description

Artfully designed Viking band ring made of 925 sterling silver. The finger ring is elaborately decorated with a Thor's hammer and runes. Width: approx. 14 mm on the front, approx. 8 mm on the back. Weight: approx.7-9 g (depending on size). The ring is partially oxidized, so that the design comes into its own. Background: The Thor's hammer is also known as Mjölnir or Mjollnir. According to Norse mythology, Mjölnir was the magical weapon of the thunder god Thor. Hurled against his enemies, he never missed his target and always returned to the hands of his master. It stands as a symbol of strength and energy. Runes were used by the Germanic peoples from the 2nd to the 14th century, especially for inscriptions on stone. Most surviving runic inscriptions date from Viking Age Scandinavia.
