Description

Faint, carefully crafted jewelry pendant "Irminsul" made of bronze. The pendant is partially blackened on the front, so that the artistic design comes into its own. Dimensions: approx. 23 mm high x approx. 24 mm wide Image of the eyelet: approx. 3.7 mm high weight: approx. 1.3 g The chain pendant is supplied with a black cotton ribbon. Importance of the symbol: In the early Middle Ages, irminsul was the highest sanctuary of the pagan Saxons. The name roughly means "big column". Researchers suspect that this column was a vertically erected tree trunk that was supposed to carry the whole universe. More details are not known, because in 772 Charlemagne destroyed the sanctuary. Nevertheless, the Irmin Column is often interpreted as a World Tree and thus associated with the Tree of Life Yggdrasil.
