Ecoidees Organic Blond Psyllium Powder is made from psyllium seeds. Psyllium is a variety of plantain native to India, locally called Isabgol. Its peculiarity is the mucilage content of its seed coat (envelope which surrounds the seed), which constitute a very high quality fiber intake and particularly suitable for complementing our modern diet. The thickening capacities of Psyllium are spectacular. The seed coat swells up to 50 times its volume by absorbing water, and creates a mucilaginous gel rich in soluble fibers (35%) and non-soluble fibers (65%). The dietary fibers of psyllium have the following properties: increase in the solid and liquid food bolus, the anaerobic fermentation of psyllium polysaccarides results in the production in the intestine of short chains of acetic, propionic and butyric fatty acids. Its high fiber content decreases the absorption of cholesterol from the diet, while stimulating the secretion of bile acids involved in reducing the absorption of cholesterol. When psyllium swells, it absorbs sugars and fats. The effect of psyllium is 100% mechanical.
