The essential oil of maranqui thyme (Thymus satureioidesde) Pranarom native to North Africa, grows on stony and rather dry soils. Thyme is an example of a plant species that illustrates the notion of chemotype. There are several chemical categories of thyme in which the chemical composition of the essential oil varies depending on the biotype in which it evolves.
