Thousands of years ago, when the elemental creatures originated, a terrible monster was also born in the shadows, whose sole purpose is to capture the creatures and imprison them in the darkness to drain their energy. The Guardians know him as Umarak, which means 'Shadow Hunter' in their language. They are terrified of him and pray that the Toa will be strong enough to stop him. If the Shadow Hunter ever succeeds in tracking down the elemental creatures, the future of Okoto itself is at stake.
