Pull the knife towards you while moving the blade in the direction that needs cutting. Pitch the handle away from you to gain more control when turning the knife around corners and pitch the handle towards you when cutting in a straight line for better efficiency. When skiving leather, hold the knife where the edge of the blade is facing in the same way as the edge for the leather or at an angle as preferred, then cut your leather outwards or across from where you would like the skive to begin straight through to the edge of the leather.
