This fiber is fermented by microorganisms in the large intestine, thus modifying the composition of the microflora of the colon (which is why it is considered a prebiotic component). It is also considered that it acts as a laxative by moistening the interior of the intestine and increasing the number of good microorganisms in it, thereby activating intestinal peristalsis.
