Lactoferrin is a multifunctional body protein. Its name is made up of lacto, that is, milk, because it was in cow's milk that this protein was first detected. Ferrin refers to iron because lactoferrin has the property of adhering to it and transporting it. Lactoferrin is present in mucous membranes, tear fluid, saliva, bile, pancreatic juices, urine, and mucus in the nasal cavity, respiratory tract, and gastrointestinal tract. Humans get lactoferrin in large quantities right after birth from colostrum and breast milk. Although our body produces lactoferrin on its own, we never get it in such a high dose as early in our lives. In fact, a Western lifestyle with a diet containing a lot of highly processed foods, a lot of (chronic) stress and exposure to all kinds of (environmental) toxins and pathogens can negatively impact our own lactoferrin reserves. *The packaging received may be slightly different from the image on the product sheet.
