Salud Viva's Toasted Buckwheat Kasha is formulated with buckwheat, which is considered a cereal due to its culinary uses. It belongs to the group of false cereals or "pseudo-cereals." Buckwheat Kasha is pre-toasted and golden brown. It is a gluten-free food rich in fiber and has a satiating effect. It is recommended to prepare in: Skillet: Rinse and drain the kasha well. In a medium skillet, combine the kasha with 1 3/4 cups water, 1 tablespoon of vegetable margarine, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a simmer, then cover with a tight-fitting lid and simmer for 18–20 minutes. Add 1 additional tablespoon of margarine if desired. In a rice cooker: Transfer all ingredients to the rice cooker and adjust the rice setting to white rice. When done, add an extra tablespoon of vegetable margarine, if desired, and add 1-2 teaspoons of water to moisten the grains if they seem dry. Serve hot. May contain traces of nuts and sesame.
