Turn the instrument upside down and pour all balls into the Vshaped grooves. 2. Insert the inner liner, then flip the instrument so the Vgrooves face upward. 3. Pull the inner liner to release the balls. 4. Balls fall through an array of nails that are equidistant on both sides. Each horizontal position on one layer sits exactly between two nails on the next layer. 5. On each contact with a nail, a ball has a 50 percent probability of falling left or right, then proceeds to the next layer until it lands in a narrow groove on the baseboard. 6. With a large number of balls, they accumulate on the baseboard and form a symmetric pattern that approximates the normal density function, with most balls concentrated near the center and fewer at the ends.
