Evening primrose oil comes from the evening primrose or primrose (Oenothera biennis and Oenothera lamarkiana), a plant native to North America. The evening primrose seeds are subjected to cold pressure, obtaining an oil that stands out for its medicinal and healing properties. This oil is very rich in essential polyunsaturated fatty acids: linoleic acid (70%) and gamma-linolenic acid (10%), both from the Omega 6 series of acids. These fatty acids are important precursors of various cellular mediators essential for the correct functioning and stability of the cell membranes of our organism, the development of the nervous and hormonal system and the regulation of coagulation processes. Essential fatty acids, since they cannot be synthesized by our body, must be incorporated into the diet. Linoleic acid, in addition to being present in evening primrose oil, can be found in vegetable oils such as sunflower and grape oil, as well as dairy products, animal fats, seeds, and nuts. It is recommended to take 1 or 2 pearls three times a day. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle.
