D-Phenylalanine, 500mg is a non-protein amino acid related to the essential amino acid L-phenylalanine. It is reported to inhibit an enzyme that degrades enkephalins. D-phenylalanine slows the action of the enzymes carboxypeptidase A, endorphinase and enkephalinase that degrade endorphins. Endorphins are neurotransmitters your body releases that bind to specialized receptors that trigger two actions. This process blocks the neurotransmitters that cause you to experience pain. It also makes your brain release more of the neurotransmitter dopamine. It is recommended to take 1 capsule daily on an empty stomach at least 20 minutes before meals, or as recommended by a nutritionally-informed physician. To ensure optimal phenylalanine absorption, avoid taking other amino acid supplements within 2-3 hours of consumption. Phenylalanine supplements should not be taken by children, pregnant, nursing, individuals with phenylketonuria (PKU), high blood pressure, taking anti-psychotic medications or MAO inhibitors. Consult your physician before use. Store in a cool dry place.
