This dietary supplement is formulated based on ubiquinone, a vitamin-like substance found within the mitochondria of every cell in the body. Mitochondria are responsible for extracting approximately 50% of the total energy contained in the foods we eat. It can be synthesized in the body, but production decreases as we age. In fact, the lack of energy in older people may, in part, be related to a lower production of ubiquinone in the body. Statins (lipoprotein-lowering drugs) have also been shown to reduce ubiquinone levels in the body, so people taking statins are increasingly being advised to take a supplement of the same. It comes in a vegetable oil base to aid absorption and is endorsed by one of the first researchers to discover CoQ10. Take 1 to 3 capsules daily with meals.
