1. This instrument is used for static electricity experiments. It can measure the potential difference between two charged objects; check if the object is charged; determine if the object is negatively charged; assess the insulation of the object; and conduct tests for inductive electrification. 2. When measuring the potential difference between two charged objects, connect the metal shell of the electroscope to one charged object and the metal rod to the other charged object, while generally grounding the shell. When the Earth's potential is zero, the potential of each charged object can be measured using the electroscope. 3. When checking the charge of an object, the electroscope ball can first be brought into contact with the object under examination, transferring the received charge to the metal rod of the electroscope, or the metal rod can be directly touched to the object. 4. The simplest method to check the insulation of an object is to ground the object (e.g., by touching it with your hand) and then connect another part of the object to the charged metal rod of the electroscope. Observe the electroscope's pointer. If the pointer quickly returns to zero, the tested object is a conductor; otherwise, it is an insulator.
